Know where you stand on residency — before it costs you.

TaxRoost counts your days across every US state and major countries automatically, warns you before you cross a residency line, and hands your CPA an audit-ready package. Your location never leaves your phone.

The TaxRoost app home screen: 228 days recorded in 2026, a green 'You're within every limit' status, and a live New York gauge at 127 of 183 days.

Built for snowbirds, remote workers, and anyone splitting the year across states or countries — where a single miscounted day can mean a second state taxing your whole income.

How it works

Turn it on once. It counts the rest.

Step 01

Turn it on

Grant location once. TaxRoost notices which state or country you're in and logs the day for you — no daily check-ins, almost no battery.

Step 02

Fill in your past

Rebuild the days you've already spent this year from your photos, calendar and workouts — right on your phone. Even the trips your GPS never saw.

Step 03

Stay ahead of the line

Watch a live gauge for each place, set threshold alerts so a limit never sneaks up, and hand your CPA an audit-ready package in one tap.

Everything you need

The whole year, handled.

Automatic day counting

Every US state and major countries, counted for you as you travel — with the border days and part-days the 183-day rule actually turns on.

Live gauges & alerts

A stoplight gauge for each place you watch, plus threshold alerts you set — staged warnings as you approach a limit, so it never sneaks up on you.

Map, calendar & simulator

See your year on a map and a color calendar, and run "what if I travel less?" to plan around a line before you cross it.

Audit-ready CPA package

A per-state day-count summary plus a day-by-day ledger with evidence and a content-integrity seal — PDF, Excel or CSV, ready in a tap.

Private by design

Your exact location is processed on your phone and never leaves it. Only the derived day and place is saved — never your coordinates or your photos.

Visa & Schengen trackers

A rolling Schengen 90/180 clock and substantial-presence tracker for the international travelers a US-only app forgets.

Questions

Good to know.

How does TaxRoost count my days?

TaxRoost resolves your location on your phone and logs which state or country you were in each day — automatically, with almost no battery cost. It applies the counting rules that actually matter, like any-part-of-a-day for most states and the place you slept for border days. It never uploads your coordinates; only the resolved day and place sync to your account.

Which states and countries does it cover?

Every US state (plus DC), with the statutory day limits where they apply. Abroad, TaxRoost automatically counts your days in major countries — the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the UAE, Australia and Japan — plus a rolling Schengen 90/180 clock and the US federal Substantial Presence Test for international travelers.

Will it drain my battery?

No. TaxRoost uses low-power location — visits and significant-location changes, not constant GPS — so day tracking runs in the background at almost no battery cost.

What's the difference between the app and the web app?

The iPhone app does the automatic day tracking — the part only your phone can do. The web app at app.taxroost.com is for reviewing your year on a big screen, running reports, and sharing a read-only view with your CPA. It's one account, synced across both.

Can it recover days I never tracked?

Yes. TaxRoost rebuilds the days you've already spent this year from your photos, calendar and workouts — right on your phone — so trips your GPS never saw still show up.

Does it work abroad and offline?

Yes. Your location is resolved on-device, so it keeps logging days even with no signal, in every state and the countries TaxRoost covers. Your records sync to your account when you're back online.

How is this better than my phone's location history?

Location history is a map of dots. TaxRoost turns it into a defensible day-by-day residency record — with the right counting rules, live thresholds for each place, and an audit-ready package your CPA can actually use.

Is my location really private?

Your exact location is processed on your phone and never leaves it. Only the derived day and place is saved to your account — never your raw coordinates, and never your photos.

Can my accountant or CPA access my data?

Only if you invite them. You add your CPA's email in the console; when they sign in to TaxRoost, they get read-only access to your day counts and reports — and you can revoke it at any time.

What does it cost?

Free to start — automatic counting, live gauges, alerts and CSV export. Pro is $39.99/year and adds audit-ready PDF and Excel packages and unlimited watched jurisdictions.

Will it help in an audit?

TaxRoost builds an audit-ready package — a per-state day-count summary plus a day-by-day ledger with evidence and a content-integrity seal — that you can hand to your CPA in one tap.

Does TaxRoost give tax advice?

No. TaxRoost is a record-keeping and audit-support tool, not tax or legal advice. Residency is complex and fact-specific — confirm your position with a qualified tax professional.

Stop guessing where you stand.

Get TaxRoost and let it count the days — so the only surprise at tax time is how easy it was.
